„Промовляй до Ізраїлевих синів, говорячи: Дайте собі міста на схо́вища, про які Я говорив вам через Мойсея,
“Tell the Israelites to designate the cities of refuge, as I instructed you through Moses,
щоб утікав туди убі́йник, що заб'є кого ненаро́ком невмисне, і вони будуть для вас на місце схо́вища від ме́сника за кров.
so that anyone who kills a person accidentally and unintentionally may flee there and find protection from the avenger of blood.
І втече він до одно́го з тих міст, і стане при вході місько́ї брами, та й буде голосно говорити старши́м того міста про свою справу. І вони ві́зьмуть його до міста до се́бе, і дадуть йому місце, і він осяде з ними.
When they flee to one of these cities, they are to stand in the entrance of the city gate and state their case before the elders of that city. Then the elders are to admit the fugitive into their city and provide a place to live among them.
А коли буде гнатися за ним ме́сник, то не видадуть убійника в руку його, бо він невмисне забив свого ближнього, і не був йому ворогом ані вчора, ані позавчора.
If the avenger of blood comes in pursuit, the elders must not surrender the fugitive, because the fugitive killed their neighbor unintentionally and without malice aforethought.
І буде він сидіти в тому місті, аж поки не стане перед громадою на суд, аж до смерти найвищого священика, що буде в тих днях. Тоді пове́рнеться убійник, та й уві́йде до свого міста та до свого дому, до того міста, звідки він утік“.
They are to stay in that city until they have stood trial before the assembly and until the death of the high priest who is serving at that time. Then they may go back to their own home in the town from which they fled.”
І посвятили вони Кедеш в Ґалілі на Нефталимовій горі, і Сихем на Єфремовій горі та Кір'ят-Арбу, воно Ефрон, на горі Юдиній.
So they set apart Kedesh in Galilee in the hill country of Naphtali, Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron) in the hill country of Judah.
А по той бік єрихонського Йорда́ну на схід вони дали: Бецер на пустині, на рівнині, із Рувимового племени, і Рамот у Ґілеаді з Ґадового племени, і Ґалан у Башані з Манасіїного племени.
East of the Jordan (on the other side from Jericho) they designated Bezer in the wilderness on the plateau in the tribe of Reuben, Ramoth in Gilead in the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan in the tribe of Manasseh.
Оце були міста призна́чення для всіх Ізраїлевих синів та для прихо́дька, що мешкає чужи́нцем серед них, на схо́вище туди кожному, хто вб'є кого ненаро́ком. І не помре він від руки ме́сника за кров, аж поки не стане перед громадою.
Any of the Israelites or any foreigner residing among them who killed someone accidentally could flee to these designated cities and not be killed by the avenger of blood prior to standing trial before the assembly.
