Старшого не докоря́й, але вмовляй, немов ба́тька, а молодших — як братів,
Instructions for the Church
Do not rebuke an older man but encourage him as you would a father, younger men as brothers,

старших жіно́к — немов матіро́к, молодших — як сесте́р, зо всякою чистістю.
older women as mothers, younger women as sisters, in all purity.
А як має вдови́ця яка дітей чи внучат, нехай у́чаться перше побожно шанувати роди́ну свою, і віддячуватися батькам, бо це Богові вгодно.
But if a widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show godliness to their own household and to make some return to their parents, for this is pleasing in the sight of God.
А вдови́ця правдива й само́тня надію складає на Бога, та перебуває день і ніч у молитвах і блага́ннях.
She who is truly a widow, left all alone, has set her hope on God and continues in supplications and prayers night and day,
А котра́ у розко́шах живе, — та живою померла.
but she who is self-indulgent is dead even while she lives.
І це наказуй, щоб були́ непорочні.
Command these things as well, so that they may be without reproach.
Коли ж хто про своїх, особливо ж про дома́шніх не дбає, той вирікся віри, і він гірший від невірного.
But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
А вдову вно́сити до спи́ску не менше, як шістдесятлітню, що була́ за дружи́ну одно́му чоловікові,
засвідчену в добрих ділах, якщо дітей ви́ховала, якщо подорожніх приймала, якщо но́ги святим умивала, якщо помагала обездо́леним, якщо всякий добрий учинок виконувала.
and having a reputation for good works: if she has brought up children, has shown hospitality, has washed the feet of the saints, has cared for the afflicted, and has devoted herself to every good work.
Але вдів молодих не приймай, бо вони, розпали́вшися, хо́чуть, наперекі́р Христові, заміж вихо́дити,
But refuse to enroll younger widows, for when their passions draw them away from Christ, they desire to marry
через що мають о́суд, бо від першої віри відкинулись.
and so incur condemnation for having abandoned their former faith.
А ра́зом із тим неробі́тні вони, бо вчаться ходити по домах, і не тільки неробітні, але й лепетли́ві, і занадто цікаві, і гово́рять, чого не годи́ться.
Besides that, they learn to be idlers, going about from house to house, and not only idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying what they should not.
Отож бо, я хочу, щоб молодші заміж вихо́дили, родили дітей, домом ря́дили, не давали противникові ані жодного по́воду для лихомовства.
So I would have younger widows marry, bear children, manage their households, and give the adversary no occasion for slander.
А коли має вдів який вірний, нехай їх утримує, а Церква нехай не обтяжується, щоб могла вона втримувати вдів правдивих.
If any believing woman has relatives who are widows, let her care for them. Let the church not be burdened, so that it may care for those who are truly widows.
А пресвітери, які добре пильнують діла, нехай будуть наділені подвійною честю, а надто ті, хто працює у слові й науці.
Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching.
Бо каже Писа́ння: „Не в'яжи рота волові, що молотить“, та: „Вартий працівни́к своєї нагоро́ди.
For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain,” and, “The laborer deserves his wages.”
Не приймай скарги проти пресві́тера, хібащо при двох чи трьох свідках.
Do not admit a charge against an elder except on the evidence of two or three witnesses.
А тих, хто грішить, картай перед усіма́, щоб і інші страх мали.
As for those who persist in sin, rebuke them in the presence of all, so that the rest may stand in fear.
Заклинаю тебе перед Богом й Ісусом Христом та ви́браними а́нголами, щоб ти заховав це без лицемі́рства, нічого не ро́блячи з упере́дженням.
In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of the elect angels I charge you to keep these rules without prejudging, doing nothing from partiality.
Не рукопоклада́й скоро ніко́го, і не приставай до чужих гріхів. Бережи себе чистим!
Do not be hasty in the laying on of hands, nor take part in the sins of others; keep yourself pure.
Води більше не пий, але трохи вина заживай ради шлу́нка твого́ та частих неду́гів твоїх.
(No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments.)
У інших людей гріхи явні і йдуть перед ними на о́суд, а за іншими йдуть слідкома́.
The sins of some people are conspicuous, going before them to judgment, but the sins of others appear later.
