Capture of the Ark Provokes God
Now the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.

І взяли́ филисти́мляни Божого ковче́га, і прине́сли його до Даґонового дому, і поставили його біля Даґо́на.
Then the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it to the house of Dagon and set it by Dagon.
А другого дня вранці повставали ашдодяни, аж ось Даґо́н лежить ницьма́ на землі перед Господнім ковче́гом! І взяли́ вони Даґо́на, і поставили його на його місце.
When the Ashdodites arose early the next morning, behold, Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD. So they took Dagon and set him in his place again.
А наступного дня повставали вони рано, — аж ось Даґон лежить ницьма́ на землі перед Господнім ковчегом! А Даґонова голова та оби́дві долоні рук його лежать відтяті на порозі, — тільки тулуб Даґо́нів позостав при ньому.
But when they arose early the next morning, behold, Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD. And the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off on the threshold; only the trunk of Dagon was left to him.
Тому то жерці та всі, хто входить до Даґо́нового дому, не ступають на Даґонів порі́г у Ашдо́ді аж до цього дня.
Therefore neither the priests of Dagon nor all who enter Dagon’s house tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.
І стала тяжка́ Господня рука на ашдо́дян, — і Він їх пусто́шив та бив їх боля́чками, Ашдо́д та довкі́лля його.
Now the hand of the LORD was heavy on the Ashdodites, and He ravaged them and smote them with tumors, both Ashdod and its territories.
І побачили ашдо́дяни, що так, та й сказали: Нехай не зостається з нами ковчег Ізраїлевого Бога, бо стала тяжко́ю Його рука на нас та на Даґо́на, бога нашого!“
When the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, “The ark of the God of Israel must not remain with us, for His hand is severe on us and on Dagon our god.”
І послали вони, і зібрали до себе всіх филисти́мських володарів, та й сказали: „Що́ ми зробимо з ковчегом Ізраїлевого Бога?“ А ті відказали: „Нехай ковчег Ізраїлевого Бога пере́йде до Ґату“. І вони перенесли ковчега Ізраїлевого Бога.
So they sent and gathered all the lords of the Philistines to them and said, “What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?” And they said, “Let the ark of the God of Israel be brought around to Gath.” And they brought the ark of the God of Israel around.
І сталося по то́му, як вони перене́сли його, то Господня рука була проти міста, — сталося дуже велике замі́шання. І вдарив Він людей того міста від мало́го й аж до великого, — і появилися на них боля́чки.
After they had brought it around, the hand of the LORD was against the city with very great confusion; and He smote the men of the city, both young and old, so that tumors broke out on them.
І вони вислали Божого ковчега до Екро́ну. І сталося, як Божий ковчег прибув до Екро́ну, то екро́няни стали кричати, говорячи: „Перене́сли до нас ковче́га Ізраїлевого Бога, щоб вигубив нас та наро́д наш!“
So they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And as the ark of God came to Ekron the Ekronites cried out, saying, “They have brought the ark of the God of Israel around to us, to kill us and our people.”
І послали вони, і зібрали всіх филисти́мських володарів, та й говорили: „Відішліть ковчега Ізраїлевого Бога, нехай вернеться на місце своє, і нехай не поб'є нас та наро́да нашого“, бо було́ смертельне замі́шання в усьо́му місті. І Божа рука стала там дуже тяжка́.
They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines and said, “Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it return to its own place, so that it will not kill us and our people.” For there was a deadly confusion throughout the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.
