Abraham and Keturah

Abraham again took a wife, and her name was Keturah.

2

Вона йому народила Земврана, Єксана, Мадана, Мадіяма, Єсвока і Сове.

And she bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.

А Єксан породив Савана, Темана і Дедана. Сини ж Дедана були: Раґуїл, Навдеїл, Ассуріїм, Латусіїм і Лоомім.

Jokshan begot Sheba and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummim.

Сини ж Мадіяма — Ґефар, Афер, Енох, Авіра і Елраґа. Усі вони були синами Хетури.

And the sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abidah, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.

Усі свої маєтки Авраам віддав Ісаакові, своєму синові,

And Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac.

а синам своїх наложниць ще за свого життя Авраам дав дарунки і відіслав їх від свого сина Ісаака на схід — до східної землі.

But Abraham gave gifts to the sons of the concubines which Abraham had; and while he was still living he sent them eastward, away from Isaac his son, to the country of the east.

Днів же життя Авраама, які прожив, — сто сімдесят п’ять років.

Abraham’s Death and Burial

This is the sum of the years of Abraham’s life which he lived: one hundred and seventy-five years.

Авраам відійшов — помер у добрій старості; у повноті віку, будучи старцем, він приєднався до свого народу.

Then Abraham breathed his last and died in a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people.

9

Ісаак та Ізмаїл, його сини, поховали його в подвійній печері на полі Ефрона Саарського, хета, що напроти Мамврії, —

And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, which is before Mamre, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite,

the field which Abraham purchased from the sons of Heth. There Abraham was buried, and Sarah his wife.

Сталося ж, що після смерті Авраама поблагословив Бог його сина Ісаака. Й Ісаак поселився біля Криниці видіння.

And it came to pass, after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac. And Isaac dwelt at Beer Lahai Roi.

Ось родовід Ізмаїла, Авраамового сина, якого народила Авраамові Агар, рабиня Сарри,

The Families of Ishmael and Isaac

Now this is the genealogy of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s maidservant, bore to Abraham.

ось імена синів Ізмаїлових за іменами його родів: Навайот, первенець Ізмаїла, і Кидар, Навдеїл, Массам,

And these were the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: The firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,

Масма, Ідума, Масси,

Mishma, Dumah, Massa,

15

Ходдад, Теман, Єтур, Нафес і Кедма.

[a]Hadar, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.

16

Це — сини Ізмаїла, це їхні імена за місцем їхнього проживання та їхнього поселення. Дванадцять володарів — за своїми народами.

These were the sons of Ishmael and these were their names, by their towns and their [b]settlements, twelve princes according to their nations.

17

Сто тридцять сім років — ось вік життя Ізмаїла. І відійшов — помер і приєднався до свого роду.

These were the years of the life of Ishmael: one hundred and thirty-seven years; and he breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people.

(They dwelt from Havilah as far as Shur, which is east of Egypt as you go toward Assyria.) He [c]died in the presence of all his brethren.

This is the genealogy of Isaac, Abraham’s son. Abraham begot Isaac.

20

Ісаак був сорокалітнім, коли взяв собі за дружину Ревеку, дочку Ватуїла-сирійця з Месопотамії, сестру Лавана-сирійця.

20

Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah as wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padan Aram, the sister of Laban the Syrian.

21

І молився Ісаак до Господа за Ревеку, свою дружину, бо вона була неплідна. Бог вислухав його, і його дружина Ревека завагітніла.

Now Isaac pleaded with the Lord for his wife, because she was barren; and the Lord granted his plea, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

22

Борсалися ж діти в ній. Тож сказала: Якщо так має бути зі мною, навіщо це мені? І пішла запитати в Господа.

22

But the children struggled together within her; and she said, “If all is well, why am I like this?” So she went to inquire of the Lord.

23

А Господь їй сказав: У твоєму лоні є два народи, і два народи розділяться вже у твоєму лоні; та один народ візьме верх над другим народом: старший буде служити молодшому.

23

And the Lord said to her:
“Two nations are in your womb,
Two peoples shall be separated from your body;
One people shall be stronger than the other,
And the older shall serve the younger.”

24

І настав час їй родити, і ось в її лоні були близнята.

24

So when her days were fulfilled for her to give birth, indeed there were twins in her womb.

25

З’явився син, первенець — рудий, увесь волохатий, наче кожух. Тож дано йому ім’я — Ісав.

25

And the first came out red. He was like a hairy garment all over; so they called his name [d]Esau.

26

А відтак з’явився його брат, і своєю рукою тримався за п’яту Ісава. І дано йому ім’я — Яків. Ісаакові було шістдесят років, коли їх народила Ревека.

Afterward his brother came out, and his hand took hold of Esau’s heel; so his name was called [e]Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.

27

Хлопці виросли. Ісав був людиною поля: умів полювати. А Яків — людиною нелукавою, він перебував удома.

27

So the boys grew. And Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field; but Jacob was a [f]mild man, dwelling in tents.

28

Ісаак полюбив Ісава, бо його здобич — це його пожива. Ревека ж любила Якова.

28

And Isaac loved Esau because he ate of his game, but Rebekah loved Jacob.

29

Якось зварив Яків страву. А Ісав прийшов з поля зовсім знесилений.

Esau Sells His Birthright

Now Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau came in from the field, and he was weary.

30

І сказав Ісав до Якова: Дай мені попоїсти цієї червоної страви, бо я заморився. Через це й дано йому прізвисько — Едом.

30

And Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary.” Therefore his name was called [g]Edom.

31

А Яків сказав Ісаву: Віддай мені сьогодні своє первородство!

31

But Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright as of this day.”

32

А Ісав відповів: Ось я вмираю — то навіщо мені те первородство?

32

And Esau said, “Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?”

33

І сказав йому Яків: Поклянися мені сьогодні. І той поклявся йому. Тож продав Ісав первородство Якову.

33

Then Jacob said, [h]“Swear to me as of this day.”
So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob.

34

А Яків дав Ісавові хліба та страву із сочевиці. Той з’їв і випив, і підвівшись, відійшов. Тож знехтував Ісав первородством.

34

And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.
