Бог промовив до Якова: Устань і піди до місцевості Бетель, там оселися й зроби там жертовника Богові, Який з’явився тобі, коли ти втікав від обличчя свого брата Ісава.

Jacob’s Return to Bethel

Then God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there; and make an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.”

Тож сказав Яків своєму домові й усім, які були з ним: Усуньте з-поміж себе чужих богів, які є у вас, і очистіться, і змініть ваш одяг.

And Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, “Put away the foreign gods that are among you, purify yourselves, and change your garments.

3

Уставайте, підемо до Бетелю, спорудимо там жертовника Богові, Який вислухав мене в день смутку, Котрий був зі мною і зберіг мене в дорозі, якою я йшов.

Then let us arise and go up to Bethel; and I will make an altar there to God, who answered me in the day of my distress and has been with me in the way which I have gone.”

І вони віддали Якову чужих богів, які були в їхніх руках, і сережки, що в їхніх вухах, і закопав їх Яків під модриною, що в Сікімах, і знищив їх аж до сьогодні.

So they gave Jacob all the foreign [a]gods which were in their hands, and the earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the terebinth tree which was by Shechem.

І вирушив Ізраїль із Сікімів, а Божий страх охопив навколишні міста, — тож не погналися за Ізраїлевими синами.

And they journeyed, and the terror of God was upon the cities that were all around them, and they did not pursue the sons of Jacob.

Яків, — він і весь народ, який був з ним, прийшли до Лузи, котра в Ханаанській землі, що власне і є Бетелем.

So Jacob came to Luz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him.

7

Він збудував там жертовника і дав назву місцевості — Бетель [1] , бо, коли він утікав від обличчя свого брата Ісава, там йому з’явився Бог.

And he built an altar there and called the place [b]El Bethel, because there God appeared to him when he fled from the face of his brother.

І померла Девора — годувальниця Ревеки — нижче Бетелю, під дубом, і дав йому назву: Дуб плачу.

Now Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse, died, and she was buried below Bethel under the terebinth tree. So the name of it was called [c]Allon Bachuth.

І знову з’явився Бог Якову в Лузі, коли той прийшов з Месопотамії сирійської, і поблагословив його Бог.

Then God appeared to Jacob again, when he came from Padan Aram, and blessed him.

10

І сказав йому Бог: Якове, твоє ім’я вже буде не Яків, а Ізраїль буде твоє ім’я.

10

And God said to him, “Your name is Jacob; your name shall not be called Jacob anymore, but Israel shall be your name.” So He called his name Israel.

11

Далі Бог сказав йому: Я — твій Бог; зростай і розмножуйся; народи і громади народів постануть з тебе, і царі вийдуть зі стегон твоїх.

Also God said to him: “I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall proceed from you, and kings shall come from your body.

12

Адже земля, яку Я віддав Авраамові й Ісаакові, — це тобі Я її дав, — вона буде твоя. Я дам цю землю твоїм нащадкам після тебе.

The land which I gave Abraham and Isaac I give to you; and to your descendants after you I give this land.”

13

І Бог з того місця, де говорив з ним, піднявся від нього вгору.

Then God went[d] up from him in the place where He talked with him.

14

І поставив Яків стовп на місці, на якому Бог говорив з ним, — кам’яний стовп, і приніс на ньому жертву, і злив на нього олію.

14

So Jacob set up a pillar in the place where He talked with him, a pillar of stone; and he poured a drink offering on it, and he poured oil on it.

15

І назвав Яків місце, там де Бог говорив з ним, — Бетель.

15

And Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him, Bethel.

16

Вирушив Яків з Бетелю і поставив свій намет неподалік від башти Ґадер. Сталося ж: коли наблизився до Хаврати, щоб іти в землю Ефрат, відбулися пологи Рахилі, — тяжкі були її пологи.

Death of Rachel

Then they journeyed from Bethel. And when there was but a little distance to go to Ephrath, Rachel labored in childbirth, and she had hard labor.

17

І було, коли вона тяжко народжувала, сказала їй повитуха: Кріпися, бо й цей у тебе син.

Now it came to pass, when she was in hard labor, that the midwife said to her, “Do not fear; you will have this son also.”

18

Сталося ж, коли покидала її душа, бо вона вмирала, то дала йому ім’я: Син мого болю [2]. Батько ж назвав його: Веніамин [3].

And so it was, as her soul was departing (for she died), that she called his name [e]Ben-Oni; but his father called him [f]Benjamin.

19

Рахиль померла. Її поховали в дорозі до Ефрата (це Вифлеєм).

So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).

20

І Яків поставив стовп на її могилі. Це могильний стовп Рахилі, який існує до сьогодні.

And Jacob set a pillar on her grave, which is the pillar of Rachel’s grave to this day.

21

Then Israel journeyed and pitched his tent beyond the tower of Eder.

22

Сталося ж, коли поселився Ізраїль у тій землі, то Рувим пішов і ввійшов до Вали — наложниці свого батька. І про це довідався Ізраїль, і йому це видалося злом. Було ж у Якова дванадцять синів.

And it happened, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father’s concubine; and Israel heard about it.
Jacob’s Twelve Sons

Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:

Сини Лії: Рувим, первенець Якова, Симеон, Левій, Юда, Іссахар і Завулон.

the sons of Leah were Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, and Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun;

24

Сини Рахилі: Йосиф і Веніамин.

the sons of Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin;

25

Сини Вали, Рахилиної рабині: Дан і Нефталим.

25

the sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s maidservant, were Dan and Naphtali;

26

Сини Зелфи, Ліїної рабині: Ґад і Асир. Це сини Якова, які народилися в нього в сирійській Месопотамії.

and the sons of Zilpah, Leah’s maidservant, were Gad and Asher. These were the sons of Jacob who were born to him in Padan Aram.

27

І прийшов Яків до Ісаака, свого батька, у Мамре, до міста на рівнині (це Хеврон) в Ханаанській землі, де жив Авраам та Ісаак.

Death of Isaac

Then Jacob came to his father Isaac at Mamre, or Kirjath Arba[g] (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had dwelt.

28

Було ж днів Ісаака, які прожив, — сто вісімдесят років.

28

Now the days of Isaac were one hundred and eighty years.

29

Він відійшов, помер і старцем приєднався до свого роду, у повноті віку. Його поховали Ісав та Яків — його сини.

29

So Isaac breathed his last and died, and was [h]gathered to his people, being old and full of days. And his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
