Що це вважав ти справедливим? Ти хто є, що сказав: Я є праведний перед Господом?

“Do you think this is just?
You say, ‘I am in the right, not God.’

Хіба скажеш: Що робитиму, коли згрішив?

Yet you ask him, ‘What profit is it to me,a
and what do I gain by not sinning?’

Я дам відповідь тобі й трьом друзям.

“I would like to reply to you
and to your friends with you.

Зверни погляд на небо і подивися, поглянь же на хмари, як вони високо від тебе!

Look up at the heavens and see;
gaze at the clouds so high above you.

Якщо ти згрішив, що заподієш? Якщо ж і багато беззаконня ти вчинив, що можеш заподіяти?

If you sin, how does that affect him?
If your sins are many, what does that do to him?

Отже, коли ти праведний, то що Йому додаси? Чи що Він візьме з твоєї руки?

If you are righteous, what do you give to him,
or what does he receive from your hand?

Твоя безбожність — людині, подібній до тебе, і твоя праведність — людському синові!

Your wickedness only affects humans like yourself,
and your righteousness only other people.

Заволають ті, хто несправедливо звинувачений багатьма, закличуть з-під твердої руки багатьох.

“People cry out under a load of oppression;
they plead for relief from the arm of the powerful.

І він не сказав: Де є Бог, Який мене створив, Котрий настановляє нічні сторожі,

But no one says, ‘Where is God my Maker,
who gives songs in the night,

Який відділяє мене від земних чотириногих, від небесних птахів?

who teaches us more than he teachesb the beasts of the earth
and makes us wiser thanc the birds in the sky?’

Там вони кричатимуть, та Він не почує, — через зарозумілість нечестивих.

He does not answer when people cry out
because of the arrogance of the wicked.

Адже Господь не бажає бачити непристойне. Бо Він — Вседержитель, Він бачить

Indeed, God does not listen to their empty plea;
the Almighty pays no attention to it.

тих, хто звершує беззаконня, і Він мене врятує. Судися ж перед Ним, чи можеш Його хвалити так, як є.

How much less, then, will he listen
when you say that you do not see him,
that your case is before him
and you must wait for him,

І тепер, оскільки немає того, хто навідується з Його гнівом, то він не дуже помічає провину.

and further, that his anger never punishes
and he does not take the least notice of wickedness.d

А Йов даремно відкриває свої уста, у незнанні він чинить слова тяжкими.

So Job opens his mouth with empty talk;
without knowledge he multiplies words.”
