І сказав Господь Мойсеєві, промовляючи:
Dedication of the Firstborn
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

Посвяти Мені кожного первістка, який народжується першим, — першим виходить з кожного лона: від людини до тварини серед Ізраїльських синів. Кожний із них — Мій.
Sanctify unto me all the firstborn, whatsoever openeth the womb among the children of Israel, both of man and of beast: it is mine.
І промовив Мойсей до народу: Запам’ятайте цей день, в який ви вийшли з Єгипту, з дому неволі, бо сильною рукою вивів вас Господь звідти. Тож не будете їсти заквашеного.
And Moses said unto the people, Remember this day, in which ye came out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the LORD brought you out from this place: there shall no leavened bread be eaten.
І буде, коли Господь, твій Бог, введе тебе в землю ханаанців, хетів, аморейців, евейців, євусейців, ґерґесейців і ферезейців, про яку поклявся твоїм батькам, що дасть тобі, у землю, яка тече молоком і медом, — то здійснюватимеш це служіння цього місяця.
And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, that thou shalt keep this service in this month.
Шість днів їстимете опрісноки, а сьомого дня — свято для Господа:
Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, and in the seventh day shall be a feast to the LORD.
Опрісноки їстимете сім днів, — не з’явиться в тебе заквашене і не буде в тебе закваски в усіх твоїх околицях.
Unleavened bread shall be eaten seven days; and there shall no leavened bread be seen with thee, neither shall there be leaven seen with thee in all thy quarters.
І сповістиш своєму синові того дня, кажучи: Це тому, що так учинив зі мною Господь Бог, коли я виходив з Єгипту.
And thou shalt shew thy son in that day, saying, This is done because of that which the LORD did unto me when I came forth out of Egypt.
І воно буде тобі за знак на твоїй руці, наче пам’ятка перед твоїми очима, щоб Господній закон був на твоїх устах. Адже сильною рукою вивів тебе Господь з Єгипту.
And it shall be for a sign unto thee upon thine hand, and for a memorial between thine eyes, that the LORD'S law may be in thy mouth: for with a strong hand hath the LORD brought thee out of Egypt.
У визначений час будеш дотримуватися цього закону з року в рік.
Thou shalt therefore keep this ordinance in his season from year to year.
І буде, коли Господь, твій Бог, введе тебе в землю ханаанців, — як і пообіцяв твоїм батькам, — і дасть її тобі,
And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanites, as he sware unto thee and to thy fathers, and shall give it thee,
то відділиш для Господа кожного чоловічої статі, хто першим вийшов з лона, — посвятиш Господу кожного чоловічої статі, який першим вийшов з лона, — і з худоби, і з твоїх домашніх тварин, які тобі народяться.
That thou shalt set apart unto the LORD all that openeth the matrix, and every firstling that cometh of a beast which thou hast; the males shall be the LORD'S.
А кожне, котре перше вийде з лона ослиці, заміниш вівцею. Якщо ж не заміниш, то викупиш його. За кожного первородного чоловіка з твоїх синів заплатиш викуп.
And every firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb; and if thou wilt not redeem it, then thou shalt break his neck: and all the firstborn of man among thy children shalt thou redeem.
Якщо ж після цього запитає тебе твій син, кажучи: Що це? — скажеш йому: Це тому, що сильною рукою вивів нас Господь з Єгипетської землі, з дому неволі.
And it shall be when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What is this? that thou shalt say unto him, By strength of hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage:
Та після того, як фараон зробився непоступливим, щоб нас не відпустити, Господь вигубив кожного первістка в Єгипетській землі — від первістків з-поміж людей до первородних із домашніх тварин. Тому я приношу в жертву Господу кожного із чоловічої статі, хто першим виходить із лона, і плачу викуп за кожного первістка з моїх синів.
And it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, that the LORD slew all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man, and the firstborn of beast: therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that openeth the matrix, being males; but all the firstborn of my children I redeem.
І буде це як знак на твоїй руці — непорушним перед твоїми очима, тому що сильною рукою вивів тебе Господь з Єгипту.
And it shall be for a token upon thine hand, and for frontlets between thine eyes: for by strength of hand the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt.
Коли ж фараон відпустив народ, Бог не повів його дорогою Филистимської землі, хоча було ближче. Оскільки Бог сказав: Щоб часом не каявся народ, коли побачить війну, і не повернувся до Єгипту.
The Pillars of Cloud and Fire
And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt:

І Бог повів народ в обхід, дорогою в пустелю, до Червоного моря, — в п’ятому поколінні вийшли сини Ізраїля з Єгипетської землі.
But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea: and the children of Israel went up harnessed out of the land of Egypt.
Мойсей забрав із собою кості Йосифа, оскільки Йосиф узяв тверду клятву [1] в Ізраїльських синів, кажучи: Вас неодмінно відвідає [2] Господь, тож ви заберете звідси із собою мої кості!
And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him: for he had straitly sworn the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you; and ye shall carry up my bones away hence with you.
Рушивши із Сокхота, сини Ізраїля отаборилися в Отомі, поблизу пустелі.
And they took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness.
Бог же вів їх: удень — хмарним стовпом, щоб показувати їм дорогу, а вночі — полум’яним стовпом.
And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night:
