Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.

бо я даю вам хороший дарунок, тож не покиньте мого закону.
For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.
Адже і я був слухняним сином у батька, — улюбленцем моєї матері.
For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.
Вони говорили й повчали мене: Нехай закорениться наше повчання у твоєму серці!
He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.
Бережи заповіді, не забудь їх, не нехтуй словами моїх уст.
Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
Не покинь її — і з’єднається з тобою! Полюби її — і оберігатиме тебе!
Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.
Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
Піклуйся про неї, і піднесе тебе вгору! Вшануй її, щоб огорнула тебе,
Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.
щоб поклала вона на твою голову вінець милості й захистила тебе короною достатку.
She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.
Послухай, сину, прийми мої слова — і помножаться роки твого життя, щоб численними були твої життєві дороги.
Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.
Адже я навчаю тебе доріг мудрості, наставляю тебе на правильні стежки.
I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.
Коли підеш ними, то не буде перешкоди твоїм крокам. Побіжиш і не втомишся.
When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
Тримайся мого вчення. Не відкинь, а дотримуйся його в себе задля твого життя.
Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.
Ти не сходь на шляхи безбожних і не прагни шляхів беззаконних.
Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.
Де вони отаборяться, туди не ходи, обминай їх, — пройди мимо.
Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.
Адже вони не заснуть, якщо не заподіють якоїсь шкоди. Їхній сон пропав — їм не заснути.
For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.
Тому що вони їдять хліб безбожності й упиваються вином беззаконня.
For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.
Дороги праведних, наче світло, вони пролягають у світлі й світлішають, доки не настане день.
But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.
А дороги безбожних темні, — і не знають вони, коли спіткнуться.
The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.
Сину, будь уважний до сказаного мною, прихили своє вухо до моїх слів.
My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
Щоб не пересохли в тобі твої джерела — бережи їх у своєму серці.
Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.
Адже вони — життя для тих, хто їх знаходить, зцілення для всього тіла,
For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
пильно бережи своє серце, бо з них — витоки життя.
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
Відкинь від себе лукавство уст і віддали далеко від себе неправедність губ.
Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.
Хай твої очі дивляться прямо, а повіки твої хай погоджуються з правдою.
Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.
Прокладай прямі стежки для своїх ніг, — випростуй твої дороги.
Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.
