A wise man's heart is at his right hand; but a fool's heart at his left.
І коли безумний іде дорогою, забракне в нього серця, і те, що він думає, усе — безумність.
Yea also, when he that is a fool walketh by the way, his wisdom faileth him, and he saith to every one that he is a fool.
Якщо проти тебе підніметься дух того, хто панує, не залиши твого місця, бо оздоровлення спиняє великі гріхи.
If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place; for yielding pacifieth great offences.
Є зло, яке я побачив під сонцем, як проступок, що вийшов від обличчя того, хто панує.
There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, as an error which proceedeth from the ruler:

Folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in low place.

I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking as servants upon the earth.
Хто копає рів, упаде в нього, і того, хто валить огорожу, його вкусить гадюка.
He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him.
Хто витягає каміння, через них буде в біді, хто ріже дерева, через них матиме клопіт.
Whoso removeth stones shall be hurt therewith; and he that cleaveth wood shall be endangered thereby.
Як відпаде залізо, і він жахнеться обличчям, зміцнить сили, і мудрість більша за сміливість.
If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.
Якщо змія вкусить без шепоту, немає користі для чарівника.
Surely the serpent will bite without enchantment; and a babbler is no better.
Слова уст мудрого — милість, і губи безумного його затоплюють.
The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.
Початок слів його уст — безумність, і кінець його уст — погане запаморочення.
The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness: and the end of his talk is mischievous madness.
І безумний множить слова. Людина не пізнала того, що стається, і те, що буде після нього, хто їй сповістить?
A fool also is full of words: a man cannot tell what shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him?
Труднощі безумних їх замучать, як того, хто не довідався, як іти до міста.
The labour of the foolish wearieth every one of them, because he knoweth not how to go to the city.
Горе тобі, місто, якщо твій цар молодий, а твої володарі вдосвіта їдять.
Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning!
Блаженна ти, земле, якщо твій цар — син вільних, і твої володарі своєчасно їдять для сили, і не застидаються.
Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!
Через лінивство впаде дах, і через безділля рук завалиться дім.
By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through.
На радість роблять хліб, і вино веселить живих, і всі послухаються срібла.
A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things.
І у твоїй совісті не проклинай царя, і в покоях твоїх спалень не проклинай багатого. Адже небесний птах віднесе голос, і той, хто має крила, сповістить слово.
Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.
