Jeremiah Shares Israel’s Affliction

I am the man who has seen affliction
Because of the rod of His wrath.

Він мене схопив і привів до темряви, а не до світла,

He has driven me and made me walk
In darkness and not in light.

3

лише на мене повернулася Його рука весь день.

Surely against me He has turned His hand
Repeatedly all the day.

4

Зістарилось моє тіло і моя шкіра, Він розбив мої кості.

He has caused my flesh and my skin to waste away,
He has broken my bones.

5

Він понабудовував проти мене, і Він оточив мою голову, і навів злидні,

He has besieged and encompassed me with bitterness and hardship.

посадив мене в темряві, як мертвих віку.

In dark places He has made me dwell,
Like those who have long been dead.

7

Він понабудовував проти мене, і я не вийду, — тяжкими зробив мої мідні окови.

He has walled me in so that I cannot go out;
He has made my chain heavy.

8

І хоч я закричу, і голосно кликатиму, Він відгородив мою молитву.

Even when I cry out and call for help,
He shuts out my prayer.

Він забудував мої дороги, загородив мої стежки, Він на мене навів тривогу.

He has blocked my ways with hewn stone;
He has made my paths crooked.

10

Він для мене — ведмідь, який полює, лев у схованці.

He is to me like a bear lying in wait,
Like a lion in secret places.

11

Він переслідував мене, того, що відступив, і зупинив мене, поставив мене знищеним.

He has turned aside my ways and torn me to pieces;
He has made me desolate.

12

Він натягнув Свій лук і поставив мене, як ціль для стріли.

He bent His bow
And set me as a target for the arrow.

13

Він увів у мої нирки синів свого сагайдака.

He made the arrows of His quiver
To enter into my inward parts.

14

Я став кпинами для всього мого народу, піснею для них увесь день.

I have become a laughingstock to all my people,
Their mocking song all the day.

15

Він наситив мене гіркотою, напоїв мене жовчю.

15

He has filled me with bitterness,
He has made me drunk with wormwood.

16

І вибив мої зуби камінцем, наситив мене попелом.

16

He has broken my teeth with gravel;
He has made me cower in the dust.

17

І відсторонив від миру мою душу, — я забув про добро,

17

My soul has been rejected from peace;
I have forgotten happiness.

18

тож я сказав: Пропала моя перемога і моя надія від Господа.

18

So I say, “My strength has perished,
And so has my hope from the LORD.”

19

Я загадав через мою убогість і моє переслідування, — гіркота і жовч

19

Hope of Relief in God’s Mercy

Remember my affliction and my wandering, the wormwood and bitterness.

20

згадається, і надокучить мені моя душа.

20

Surely my soul remembers
And is bowed down within me.

21

Це постановлю у своєму серці, через це терпітиму.

21

This I recall to my mind,
Therefore I have hope.

22

The LORD’S lovingkindnesses indeed never cease,
For His compassions never fail.

23

They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.

24

“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul,
“Therefore I have hope in Him.”

25

Господь добрий для тих, що Його очікують, — для душі, яка Його шукатиме.

25

The LORD is good to those who wait for Him,
To the person who seeks Him.

26

Добре терпеливо чекати на Господнє спасіння і мовчати.

26

It is good that he waits silently
For the salvation of the LORD.

27

Добре людині, коли візьме ярмо у своїй молодості,

27

It is good for a man that he should bear
The yoke in his youth.

28

сяде на самоті й мовчатиме, бо Він узяв на себе.

28

Let him sit alone and be silent
Since He has laid it on him.

29

Let him put his mouth in the dust,
Perhaps there is hope.

30

Підставить щоку тому, хто його б’є, насититься впокоренням,

30

Let him give his cheek to the smiter,
Let him be filled with reproach.

31

бо Господь не відкине навіки.

31

For the Lord will not reject forever,

32

Бо Хто впокорив, змилосердиться за великим числом Свого милосердя.

32

For if He causes grief,
Then He will have compassion
According to His abundant lovingkindness.

33

Адже Він не відповів від Свого серця і впокорив людських синів.

33

For He does not afflict willingly
Or grieve the sons of men.

34

Щоби впокорити під Його ногами всіх в’язнів землі,

34

To crush under His feet
All the prisoners of the land,

35

аби відхилити суд людини перед обличчям Всевишнього,

35

To deprive a man of justice
In the presence of the Most High,

36

щоб засудити людину, коли її судить, — хіба Господь не побачив?

36

To defraud a man in his lawsuit —
Of these things the Lord does not approve.

37

Хто так сказав, і сталося, чи Господь не заповів?

37

Who is there who speaks and it comes to pass,
Unless the Lord has commanded it?

38

Хіба з уст Всевишнього вийде зло і добро?

38

Is it not from the mouth of the Most High
That both good and ill go forth?

39

Чому нарікає людина, живучи, — чоловік за свої гріхи?

39

Why should any living mortal, or any man,
Offer complaint in view of his sins?

40

Наша дорога розвідана і досліджена, тож повернімося до Господа!

40

Let us examine and probe our ways,
And let us return to the LORD.

41

Піднімімо наші серця до Всевишнього — на руках до неба.

41

We lift up our heart and hands
Toward God in heaven;

42

Ми згрішили, ми були безбожні, і ми засмутили, і Ти не помилував.

42

We have transgressed and rebelled,
You have not pardoned.

43

Ти навідався в гніві, і Ти нас відігнав. Ти вигубив, Ти не пощадив.

43

You have covered Yourself with anger
And pursued us;
You have slain and have not spared.

44

Ти покрив Себе хмарою через молитву,

44

You have covered Yourself with a cloud
So that no prayer can pass through.

45

щоб схилити мене і відкинути; Ти нас поставив посеред народів.

45

You have made us mere offscouring and refuse
In the midst of the peoples.

46

Проти нас відкрили свої уста всі наші вороги.

46

All our enemies have opened their mouths against us.

47

Нас охопив страх і жах, збудження і знищення.

47

Panic and pitfall have befallen us,
Devastation and destruction;

48

Моє око виведе потоки води над побиттям дочки мого народу.

48

My eyes run down with streams of water
Because of the destruction of the daughter of my people.

49

Моє око втопилося, тож не замовчу, щоб не було спочинку,

49

My eyes pour down unceasingly,
Without stopping,

50

аж доки Господь з неба не нахилиться і не побачить!

50

Until the LORD looks down
And sees from heaven.

51

Моє око нагромаджує на мою душу за всіх дочок міста.

51

My eyes bring pain to my soul
Because of all the daughters of my city.

52

Мої вороги заповзялися полювати [1] на мене без підстави, як на горобця,

52

My enemies without cause
Hunted me down like a bird;

53

убили в ставі моє життя і поставили на мене камінь, —

53

They have silenced me in the pit
And have placed a stone on me.

54

полилася вода на мою голову. Я сказав: Я відкинений.

54

Waters flowed over my head;
I said, “I am cut off!”

55

Господи, я закликав Твоє Ім’я з глибокого ставу.

55

I called on Your name, O LORD,
Out of the lowest pit.

56

Ти почув мій голос, не сховай Твоїх вух від моєї молитви.

56

You have heard my voice,
“Do not hide Your ear from my prayer for relief,
From my cry for help.”

57

Ти наблизився для допомоги мені в день, в який я закликав до Тебе. Ти мені сказав: Не бійся!

57

You drew near when I called on You;
You said, “Do not fear!”

58

Господи, ти розсудив суди моєї душі, — Ти визволив моє життя!

58

O Lord, You have pleaded my soul’s cause;
You have redeemed my life.

59

Господи, Ти побачив мої тривоги, Ти відсудив мій суд.

59

O LORD, You have seen my oppression;
Judge my case.

60

Ти побачив увесь їхній суд, усі їхні задуми щодо мене.

60

You have seen all their vengeance,
All their schemes against me.

61

Ти почув їхню погорду, усі їхні задуми проти мене,

61

You have heard their reproach, O LORD,
All their schemes against me.

62

уста тих, що повстали, — проти мене, і їхні намагання проти мене весь день.

62

The lips of my assailants and their whispering
Are against me all day long.

63

Поглянь на їхнє сидіння і їхнє вставання. Я — їхня пісня.

63

Look on their sitting and their rising;
I am their mocking song.

64

Господи, віддаси їм відплату, за ділами їхніх рук,

64

You will recompense them, O LORD,
According to the work of their hands.

65

віддаси їм охорону серця! Твоє лихо для них, —

65

You will give them hardness of heart,
Your curse will be on them.

66

Ти переслідуватимеш у гніві та вигубиш їх під небом, Господи!

66

You will pursue them in anger and destroy them
From under the heavens of the LORD!
