Nebuchadnezzar Confesses God's Kingdom

Nebuchadnezzar the king, unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.

Знаки і чуда, які зі мною зробив Всевишній Бог, були до вподоби переді мною, щоб вам сповістити,

I thought it good to shew the signs and wonders that the high God hath wrought toward me.

3

які вони великі та сильні. Його царство, вічне царство, і його влада з роду в рід.

How great are his signs! and how mighty are his wonders! his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion is from generation to generation.

Я, Навуходоносор, був у моєму домі в добробуті та в процвітанні.

Nebuchadnezzar's Dream of a Great Tree

I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest in mine house, and flourishing in my palace:

Я побачив сон, і він мене перелякав, і я жахнувся на моєму ліжку, і видіння моєї голови мене налякали.

I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.

6

І мною поставлено припис привести до мене всіх мудреців Вавилону, щоб сповістили мені пояснення сну.

Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream.

7

І входили заклиначі, чаклуни, ґазарени, халдеї, і я виклав сон перед ними, та його пояснення вони мені не сповістили,

Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers: and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof.

8

аж доки не прийшов Даниїл, ім’я якого Валтасар по імені мого бога, який має в собі святого Божого духа, і я перед ним виклав сон.

But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods: and before him I told the dream, saying,

9

Валтасаре, володарю заклиначів, про якого я пізнав, що в тобі святий Божий дух і всяка таємниця тобі під силу, послухай видіння сну, який я побачив, і скажи мені його пояснення!

O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and no secret troubleth thee, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and the interpretation thereof.

10

На моєму ліжку я бачив, аж ось дерево посеред землі, і його висота величезна.

10

Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great.

11

Дерево стало великим і зміцнилось, і його висота досягла аж до неба, а його крона — до кінців усієї землі.

The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth:

12

Його листя гарне, і його плід великий, і в ньому — пожива для всіх. І під ним поселялися дикі звірі, а на його галузках селилися птахи неба, і з нього годувалося всяке тіло.

The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed of it.

13

Я бачив у нічному видінні на моєму ліжку, аж ось ір [1] , і Святий з неба зійшов,

I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven;

14

і гучно закликав, і так сказав: Зрубайте дерево і відломіть його галузки, струсіть його листя і розсипте його плід! Хай будуть зрушені звірі, що під ним, і птахи з його галуззя!

He cried aloud, and said thus, Hew down the tree, and cut off his branches, shake off his leaves, and scatter his fruit: let the beasts get away from under it, and the fowls from his branches:

15

Тільки залиште ріст його коріння в землі та в залізних і мідних оковах, і в зелені ззовні, і він спочине в небесній росі, а його частка зі звірами в траві землі.

Nevertheless leave the stump of his roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth:

16

Його серце відчужиться від людей, і йому буде дане серце звіра, і сім часів від нього будуть відчужені.

16

Let his heart be changed from man's, and let a beast's heart be given unto him; and let seven times pass over him.

17

Слово через пояснення іра, і вирок — слово святих, щоб пізнали ті, які живуть, що Господь є Всевишній над людським царством, і кому тільки захоче, дасть його, і погорджене людьми підніме над ним.

This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.

18

Це сон, який побачив я, цар Навуходоносор, і ти, Валтасаре, скажи пояснення, бо всі мудреці мого царства не можуть пояснити мені його значення, ти ж, Даниїле, можеш, бо в тобі святий Божий дух.

This dream I king Nebuchadnezzar have seen. Now thou, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation thereof, forasmuch as all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known unto me the interpretation: but thou art able; for the spirit of the holy gods is in thee.

19

Тоді Даниїл, якому ім’я Валтасар, перебував у мовчанні якусь одну годину, і його роздуми бентежили його. Цар відповів і сказав Валтасарові: Сон і пояснення хай тебе не підганяє. Та Валтасар відповів і сказав: Пане, сон для тих, що тебе ненавидять, і його пояснення для твоїх ворогів.

Daniel Interprets the Second Dream

Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonied for one hour, and his thoughts troubled him. The king spake, and said, Belteshazzar, let not the dream, or the interpretation thereof, trouble thee. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, the dream be to them that hate thee, and the interpretation thereof to thine enemies.

Дерево, яке ти побачив, що стало великим і сильним, висота якого сягала до неба, а його крона — по всій землі,

The tree that thou sawest, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached unto the heaven, and the sight thereof to all the earth;

21

його листя гарне та його плід численний, і в ньому їжа для всіх, — під ним жили дикі звірі, а в його галузках поселялися небесні птахи, —

21

Whose leaves were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and upon whose branches the fowls of the heaven had their habitation:

22

є ти, царю! Адже ти став великим і сильним, і твоя велич стала великою, і досягла неба, а твоя влада — до кінців землі.

22

It is thou, O king, that art grown and become strong: for thy greatness is grown, and reacheth unto heaven, and thy dominion to the end of the earth.

23

Оскільки цар побачив іра і Святого, Котрий сходив з неба і сказав: Зрубайте дерево і знищте його! Лише залиште ріст його коріння в землі і залізними та мідними кайданами, і в зелені надворі! І він проживатиме в росі неба, і його частка з дикими звірами, — аж до сімох часів будуть відчужені від нього!

And whereas the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from heaven, and saying, Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him;

Ось його пояснення, царю, і пояснення є Всевишнього, яке досягло мого пана царя:

24

This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the most High, which is come upon my lord the king:

25

тебе проженуть від людей, і твоє проживання буде з дикими звірами, і тебе годуватимуть травою, наче вола, і під росою неба проживатимеш, і сім часів зміняться над тобою, аж доки не пізнаєш, що Всевишній панує над людським царством, і кому тільки захоче, його дасть.

That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.

26

Оскільки ж сказали: Залиште ріст коріння дерева! — то твоє царство тобі залишиться, відколи тільки пізнаєш небесну владу.

26

And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the tree roots; thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule.

27

Через це, царю, нехай моя рада буде тобі милою і очистить твої гріхи в співчутті й твої беззаконня в милосерді до бідних. Можливо Бог буде довготерпеливим до твоїх переступів.

Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by shewing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.

Це все досягло царя Навуходоносора.

The Second Dream Fulfilled

All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar.

29

Після дванадцяти місяців у храмі свого царства у Вавилоні, проходжуючись,

At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.

30

цар відповів і сказав: Хіба це не є великий Вавилон, який я збудував у дім царства владою моєї сили на честь моєї слави?

30

The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?

31

Ще було слово на устах царя, був голос з неба: До тебе говорять, царю Навуходоносоре, від тебе минуло царство,

31

While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.

32

і тебе проженуть від людей, і твоє проживання — з дикими звірами, і тебе годуватимуть травою, наче вола, і сім часів зміняться над тобою, аж доки не пізнаєш, що Всевишній панує над царством людей, і якщо кому схоче, його дасть!

32

And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.

33

Цієї години сповнилося слово на Навуходоносорові, і він був прогнаний від людей і їв траву, наче віл, і його тіло було зрошуване росою з неба, аж доки його волосся не стало великим, як у левів, а його нігті, як у птахів.

The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.

Після закінчення днів я, Навуходоносор, підняв свої очі до неба, і мій розум повернувся до мене, і я поблагословив Всевишнього, — Того, Хто живе навіки, я хвалив, і прославив, бо Його влада — вічна влада, і Його царство з роду в рід,

Nebuchadnezzar's Restoration

And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:

35

і всі, що живуть на землі, за ніщо вважаються, і Він чинить за Своєю волею в небесній силі [2] та в поселеннях землі, і немає нікого, хто чинитиме опір Його руці та скаже Йому: Що Ти зробив?

35

And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?

36

У той час мій розум повернувся до мене, і я прийшов до честі мого царства, і мій вигляд повернувся до мене, і мої тирани, і мої вельможі мене шукали, і я скріпився на моє царство, і до мене повернулася надмірна велич.

At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellers and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me.

37

Тож тепер я, Навуходоносор, хвалю, величаю і прославляю Царя неба, бо всі Його діла правдиві, а Його стежки — суд, і всіх тих, що ходять у гордості, Він може впокорити.

37

Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.
