Пошли людей, хай оглянуть Ханаанську землю, яку Я даю у володіння ізраїльським синам! Пошли по одному чоловікові з племені, за їхніми родами по батьківській лінії, кожний з них — князь.
“Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the people of Israel. From each tribe of their fathers you shall send a man, every one a chief among them.”
І за Господнім словом Мойсей послав їх з пустелі Фаран. Усі ці чоловіки — князі ізраїльських синів.
So Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran, according to the command of the Lord, all of them men who were heads of the people of Israel.
Ось їхні імена. З племені Рувима — Саму, син Закхура.
And these were their names: From the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur;
З племені Йосифа, із синів Манасії, — Ґадді, син Сусія.
from the tribe of Joseph (that is, from the tribe of Manasseh), Gaddi the son of Susi;
Це — імена людей, яких Мойсей послав оглядати землю. А Авсія, сина Навина, Мойсей назвав Ісусом.
These were the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun Joshua.

Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan and said to them, “Go up into the Negeb and go up into the hill country,
Огляньте землю, якою вона є, і народ, який проживає на ній: чи сильний він, чи слабий, чи є малий кількісно, чи численний.
and see what the land is, and whether the people who dwell in it are strong or weak, whether they are few or many,
І яка земля, на котрій він проживає: хороша чи погана. І які міста, у котрих він живе: чи оточені мурами, чи без мурів.
and whether the land that they dwell in is good or bad, and whether the cities that they dwell in are camps or strongholds,
І яка земля: чи родюча, чи запущена, чи є на ній дерева, чи ні. І наважтеся взяти дещо з плодів землі. А пора була — перші дні весни, початок дозрівання винограду.
and whether the land is rich or poor, and whether there are trees in it or not. Be of good courage and bring some of the fruit of the land.” Now the time was the season of the first ripe grapes.
Тож вони пішли і оглянули землю від пустелі Сін аж до Раава, що в напрямку до Емату.
So they went up and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, near Lebo-hamath.
Далі пішли пустелею, і дійшли аж до Хеврона, а там — Ахіман, Сесі й Теламін, роди Енака. А Хеврон був збудований за сім років перед Таніном єгипетським.
They went up into the Negeb and came to Hebron. Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, were there. (Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)
Вони зайшли аж до Долини грона, і оглянули її. І там вони відсікли гілку, а на ній — одне гроно винограду — таке, що несли його на жердині, — та дещо з гранат і смокв.
And they came to the Valley of Eshcol and cut down from there a branch with a single cluster of grapes, and they carried it on a pole between two of them; they also brought some pomegranates and figs.
Тож те місце назвали Долиною грона — через гроно, яке зрубали там ізраїльські сини.
Через сорок днів, оглянувши землю, вони звідти повернулися.
Report of the Spies
At the end of forty days they returned from spying out the land.

Подорожуючи, вони прийшли до Мойсея та Аарона і до всієї громади ізраїльських синів у пустелі Фаран-Кадис. Їм і всій громаді вони принесли звіт, і показали плоди землі.
And they came to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation of the people of Israel in the wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh. They brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.
Вони розповідали йому і казали: Ми пішли в землю, в яку ти нас послав, у землю, що тече молоком і медом, а це — її плід.
And they told him, “We came to the land to which you sent us. It flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.
Але народ, який там живе, — відважний, а міста — укріплені, обнесені муром і дуже великі. І ми знайшли там рід Енака.
However, the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large. And besides, we saw the descendants of Anak there.
А на землі, що на півдні, живе Амалик; хети і евейці, євусейці і аморейці мешкають у гірських околицях, а ханаанці проживають біля моря та біля Йорданської ріки.
The Amalekites dwell in the land of the Negeb. The Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the hill country. And the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and along the Jordan.”
Халев же втихомирив народ перед Мойсеєм і сказав йому: Ні! Але ми обов’язково підемо [1] та успадкуємо її, бо ми сильні, здатні побороти їх!
But Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, “Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it.”
Та чоловіки, які ходили з ним, сказали: Не виходьмо, бо ніяк не зможемо виступити проти цього народу, оскільки він значно сильніший за нас!
Then the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we are.”
Тож вони рознесли між ізраїльськими синами страшну уяву про землю, котру оглядали, говорячи: Земля, яку ми ходили оглядати, — це земля, що поглинає тих, хто живе на ній. Кожний народ, який ми там бачили, — люди дуже високі.
So they brought to the people of Israel a bad report of the land that they had spied out, saying, “The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people that we saw in it are of great height.
