The Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard

“For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.

Домовившись з робітниками по динарію за день, він послав їх до свого виноградника.

Now when he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.

3

Вийшовши о третій годині [1] , побачив інших, які стояли без діла на ринку,

And he went out about the third hour and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,

4

і сказав їм: Ідіть і ви у виноградник — і дам вам по справедливості.

and said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.’ So they went.

5

Вони пішли. Далі, вийшовши о шостій та о дев’ятій годинах, зробив так само.

Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did likewise.

Коли вийшов об одинадцятій годині, знайшов інших, які стояли, і каже їм: Чому ви стоїте тут без діла цілий день?

And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing [a]idle, and said to them, ‘Why have you been standing here idle all day?’

7

Кажуть йому: Бо нас ніхто не найняв. Він каже їм: Ідіть і ви у виноградник [мій — і одержите, що вам належить].

They said to him, ‘Because no one hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, [b]and whatever is right you will receive.’

8

Коли настав вечір, каже господар виноградника до свого управителя: Поклич робітників і дай їм платню, почавши від останніх і аж до перших.

“So when evening had come, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, ‘Call the laborers and give them their wages, beginning with the last to the first.’

9

Ті, хто прийшов об одинадцятій годині, одержали по динарію.

9

And when those came who were hired about the eleventh hour, they each received a denarius.

10

А коли підійшли перші, то думали, що одержать більше, але й вони отримали по динарію.

10

But when the first came, they supposed that they would receive more; and they likewise received each a denarius.

11

Відтак, одержавши, нарікали на пана,

And when they had received it, they [c]complained against the landowner,

12

кажучи: Оці останні попрацювали одну годину, а ти прирівняв їх до нас, які винесли тягар дня і спеку.

saying, ‘These last men have worked only one hour, and you made them equal to us who have borne the burden and the heat of the day.’

13

А він у відповідь сказав одному з них: Друже, не кривджу тебе; чи не за динарія домовився ти зі мною?

13

But he answered one of them and said, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius?

14

Візьми своє і йди. Я хочу й цьому останньому дати так само, як і тобі;

14

Take what is yours and go your way. I wish to give to this last man the same as to you.

15

хіба не можна мені зробити з моїм те, що я бажаю? Чи твоє око лукаве через те, що я добрий?

15

Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am good?’

16

Так останні будуть першими, а перші — останніми, [бо багато є покликаних, а мало вибраних].

So the last will be first, and the first last. For[d] many are called, but few chosen.”

17

Прямуючи до Єрусалима, Ісус узяв дванадцятьох учнів окремо і дорогою сказав їм:

Jesus a Third Time Predicts His Death and Resurrection

Now Jesus, going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples aside on the road and said to them,

18

Ось, ідемо до Єрусалима, і Син Людський буде виданий первосвященикам і книжникам; і засудять Його на смерть,

18

“Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death,

19

і видадуть Його язичникам на наругу, на катування та розп’яття, а третього дня Він воскресне.

19

and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He will rise again.”

20

Тоді підійшла до Нього мати синів Зеведеєвих зі своїми синами, кланяючись і просячи щось у Нього.

20

Greatness Is Serving

Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Him with her sons, kneeling down and asking something from Him.

21

Він запитав її: Чого бажаєш? Вона відповідає Йому: Звели, щоби двоє моїх синів сіли — один праворуч Тебе, а другий — ліворуч у Твоєму Царстві.

And He said to her, “What do you wish?”
She said to Him, “Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on the left, in Your kingdom.”

22

У відповідь Ісус промовив: Не знаєте, чого просите. Чи можете пити чашу, яку Я маю пити? [Або хреститися хрещенням, яким Я хрещуся?] Кажуть Йому: Можемо.

But Jesus answered and said, “You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink, [e]and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?”
They said to Him, “We are able.”

23

Він говорить їм: Отже, чашу Мою будете пити [і хрещенням, яким Я хрещуся, будете хреститися], але щоб сісти по правиці й лівиці від Мене, не Моє це давати, а лише кому приготував Мій Отець.

So He said to them, “You will indeed drink My cup, [f]and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with; but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it is prepared by My Father.”

24

Почувши це, десятеро обурилися на двох братів.

24

And when the ten heard it, they were greatly displeased with the two brothers.

25

Ісус же, покликавши їх, сказав: Ви знаєте, що князі народів володіють ними, а сильні світу панують над ними.

25

But Jesus called them to Himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them.

26

Не так буде у вас: бо хто хоче між вами стати великим, той нехай буде вашим слугою,

26

Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant.

27

і хто лише хоче між вами бути першим, нехай буде вашим рабом;

27

And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave —

28

так само і Син Людський — прийшов Він не для того, щоби служили Йому, а щоби послужити й віддати Свою душу як викуп за багатьох!

28

just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

29

Коли вони виходили з Єрихона, за Ним пішов великий натовп.

Two Blind Men Receive Their Sight

Now as they went out of Jericho, a great multitude followed Him.

30

І ось двоє сліпих, які сиділи при дорозі, почувши, що Ісус наближається, закричали: Помилуй нас, Господи, Сину Давидів!

30

And behold, two blind men sitting by the road, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, saying, “Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David!”

31

Натовп втихомирював їх, щоби замовкли, а вони ще дужче кричали, гукаючи: Помилуй нас, Господи, Сину Давидів!

31

Then the multitude warned them that they should be quiet; but they cried out all the more, saying, “Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David!”

32

Ісус зупинився, покликав їх і промовив: Що хочете, щоб Я зробив для вас?

32

So Jesus stood still and called them, and said, “What do you want Me to do for you?”

33

Вони кажуть Йому: Господи, аби відкрилися наші очі.

33

They said to Him, “Lord, that our eyes may be opened.”

34

Ісус, змилосердившись, доторкнувся до їхніх очей — і вони враз стали зрячими й пішли за Ним.

34

So Jesus had compassion and touched their eyes. And immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed Him.
