Пішов і Йосиф з Галилеї, з міста Назарета, до Юдеї, до міста Давидового, що зветься Вифлеємом, — бо був він з дому та з роду Давидового, —
Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,
записатися з Марією, зарученою з ним [жінкою], яка була вагітна.
in order to register along with Mary, who was engaged to him, and was with child.
І сталося ж так, що коли вони були там, сповнилися дні, щоб їй народити.
While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth.
І вона народила свого Первістка — Сина, сповила Його й поклала в яслах, оскільки в гостиниці не було для них місця.
And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
А в тій місцевості були пастухи, які вночі перебували в полі та стерегли свою отару.
In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night.
Аж [ось] Господній ангел став між ними, і слава Господня осяяла їх, і вони були охоплені великим страхом.
And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened.
Та ангел сказав їм: Не бійтеся, бо я звіщаю вам велику радість, яка буде для всього народу:
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people;
для вас сьогодні в місті Давида народився Спаситель, Який є Христос Господь.
for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
А ось вам ознака: знайдете сповите Немовля, Яке лежить у яслах.
“This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
І раптом з’явилася біля ангела сила-силенна небесного війська; вони хвалили Бога і проголошували:
And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
Слава Богові на висоті, а на землі — мир у людях доброї волі!
“Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”
And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”
І сталося, що коли ангели відійшли від них на небо, пастухи почали говорити один одному: Ходімо у Вифлеєм і погляньмо, що там сталося, про що Господь сповістив нам!
When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, “Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us.”
Поспішаючи, вони прийшли та знайшли Марію, Йосифа й Немовля, Яке лежало в яслах.
So they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger.
Побачивши, вони розповіли про те, що було сказано їм про цю Дитину.
When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child.
І всі ті, які чули, здивувалися зі сказаного їм пастухами.
And all who heard it wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds.
Марія ж зберігала всі ці слова, беручи до свого серця.
But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart.
А пастухи повернулися, славлячи й вихваляючи Бога за все, що чули та бачили, як їм було сказано.
The shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as had been told them.
Як виповнилося вісім днів, — коли мали обрізати Його, — то дали Йому Ім’я Ісус, як проголосив ангел ще перед Його зачаттям в утробі.
Jesus Presented at the Temple
And when eight days had passed, before His circumcision, His name was then called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.
І коли, згідно із Законом Мойсея, минули дні очищення, то принесли Його до Єрусалима, щоби поставити перед Господом,
And when the days for their purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him up to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord
як то записано в Господньому Законі: кожне немовля чоловічої статі, яке є первородним, назветься святим для Господа.
(as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “EVERY firstborn MALE THAT OPENS THE WOMB SHALL BE CALLED HOLY TO THE LORD”),
І щоб скласти жертву, згідно зі сказаним у Законі Господнім, — дві горлиці або два молодих голуби.
and to offer a sacrifice according to what was said in the Law of the Lord, “A PAIR OF TURTLEDOVES OR TWO YOUNG PIGEONS.”
В Єрусалимі був один чоловік на ім’я Симеон, людина праведна й побожна, який очікував утіхи Ізраїля, і Святий Дух був на ньому.
And there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
І було йому обіцяно Духом Святим, що він не побачить смерті, доки не побачить Христа Господнього.
And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
І привів його Дух до храму. Коли батьки внесли Немовля Ісуса, щоби зробити з Ним за законним звичаєм,
And he came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to carry out for Him the custom of the Law,
він узяв Його на руки, віддав хвалу Богові, та й сказав:
then he took Him into his arms, and blessed God, and said,
Нині відпускаєш Свого раба, Владико, згідно зі Своїм словом, у мирі,
“Now Lord, You are releasing Your bond-servant to depart in peace,
According to Your word;
According to Your word;
яке Ти приготовив перед обличчям усіх народів:
Which You have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
Світло відкриття для язичників і славу Твого народу Ізраїля!
A LIGHT OF REVELATION TO THE GENTILES,
And the glory of Your people Israel.”
And the glory of Your people Israel.”
І Його батько та мати дивувалися тим, що говорилося про Нього.
And His father and mother were amazed at the things which were being said about Him.
А Симеон поблагословив їх і сказав Марії, Його матері: Ось, Цей поставлений на падіння і на піднесення багатьох в Ізраїлі, як ознака суперечок;
And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is appointed for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and for a sign to be opposed —
і тобі самій меч прошиє душу, щоб відкрилися думки багатьох сердець!
and a sword will pierce even your own soul — to the end that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.”
І була тут Анна — пророчиця, дочка Фануїла з роду Асира; вона дожила до глибокої старості, а з чоловіком прожила сім років від дівоцтва свого;
And there was a prophetess, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years and had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage,
вдова вісімдесяти чотирьох років, яка не відходила від храму, служачи вдень і вночі постом та молитвами.
and then as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple, serving night and day with fastings and prayers.
Прийшовши в той час, вона прославляла Господа і говорила про Нього всім, хто чекав на викуплення Єрусалима.
At that very moment she came up and began giving thanks to God, and continued to speak of Him to all those who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.
А як виконали все за Законом Господнім, вони повернулися до Галилеї, до свого міста Назарета.
Return to Nazareth
When they had performed everything according to the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city of Nazareth.
Дитина ж росла й міцніла, сповнюючись мудрості, і благодать Божа була на Ній.
The Child continued to grow and become strong, increasing in wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.
Його батьки щороку ходили в Єрусалим на свято Пасхи.
Visit to Jerusalem
Now His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover.
І коли виповнилося Йому дванадцять років, вони за звичаєм пішли на свято [в Єрусалим].
And when He became twelve, they went up there according to the custom of the Feast;
А як закінчилися дні свята, вони поверталися, а Хлопець Ісус залишився в Єрусалимі; та не знали того Його батьки, [Йосиф і мати].
and as they were returning, after spending the full number of days, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. But His parents were unaware of it,
Вони думали, що Він десь у натовпі. Пройшли день дороги і стали шукати Його поміж родичами та знайомими;
but supposed Him to be in the caravan, and went a day’s journey; and they began looking for Him among their relatives and acquaintances.
і, не знайшовши, вони повернулися до Єрусалима й там шукали Його.
When they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem looking for Him.
І сталося, що через три дні знайшли Його в храмі; Він сидів серед учителів, слухав їх та розпитував.
Then, after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.
Усі, які слухали, дивувалися з Його розуму та відповідей.
And all who heard Him were amazed at His understanding and His answers.
Побачивши Його, вони здивувалися; і мати Його сказала Йому: Дитино, чому Ти нам таке вчинив? Ось Твій батько і я, страждаючи, шукали Тебе.
When they saw Him, they were astonished; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You treated us this way? Behold, Your father and I have been anxiously looking for You.”
А Він відповів їм: Чому ж ви шукали Мене? Хіба ви не знали, що Мені треба бути при справах Мого Отця?
And He said to them, “Why is it that you were looking for Me? Did you not know that I had to be in My Father’s house?”
Та вони не зрозуміли тих слів, які Він їм сказав.
But they did not understand the statement which He had made to them.
І пішов Він з ними, і прибув у Назарет, і слухався їх. А Його мати зберігала всі ті слова у своєму серці.
And He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and He continued in subjection to them; and His mother treasured all these things in her heart.
