    Jesus the Light of the World

    But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.

    Та вдосвіта знову прийшов до храму, і весь народ приходив до Нього, і Він, сівши, навчав їх.

    Now [a]early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them.

    А книжники [1] й фарисеї [2] привели [до Нього] жінку, схоплену під час перелюбу і, поставивши її посередині,

    Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst,

    кажуть Йому: Учителю, ця жінка явно була схоплена в перелюбі.

    they said to Him, “Teacher, [b]this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act.
  • 5
    У Законі Мойсей наказав нам таких побивати камінням. А Ти що на це скажеш?

    Now [c]Moses, in the law, commanded us [d]that such should be stoned. But what do You [e]say?”

    Це вони говорили, випробовуючи Його, щоб мати підставу звинуватити Його. Ісус же, схилившись додолу, писав пальцем по землі, [не звертаючи на них уваги].

    This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, [f]as though He did not hear.

    So when they continued asking Him, He [g]raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”

    And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.

    Вони ж, почувши, [і засоромлені совістю], відходили один за одним, починаючи зі старших [до останніх]; і залишився Сам [Ісус] та жінка, яка стояла посередині.

    Then those who heard it, being[h] convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

    Ісус, підвівши голову [і не побачивши нікого, лише саму жінку], сказав їй: Жінко, де вони, [ті, хто звинувачував тебе]? Ніхто тебе не осудив?

    When Jesus had raised Himself up [i]and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers [j]of yours? Has no one condemned you?”

    Вона відповіла: Ніхто, Господи. А Ісус їй сказав: Я тебе також не засуджую. Іди й відтепер більше не гріши.

    She said, “No one, Lord.”
    And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go [k]and sin no more.”

    Тоді Ісус знову промовляв до них, кажучи: Я — Світло для світу! Хто піде за Мною, той не ходитиме в темряві, але матиме Світло життя.

    Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

    Однак фарисеї Йому сказали: Ти свідчиш про Себе Сам, тож Твоє свідчення не є правдивим.

    Jesus Defends His Self-Witness

    The Pharisees therefore said to Him, “You bear witness of Yourself; Your witness is not [l]true.”

    У відповідь Ісус сказав їм: Хоч Я свідчу про Себе, Моє свідчення є правдивим, бо Я знаю, звідки прийшов і куди йду, а ви не знаєте, звідки Я і куди йду.

    Jesus answered and said to them, “Even if I bear witness of Myself, My witness is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from and where I am going.

    Ви по-тілесному судите, — Я ж не суджу нікого.
  • 15
    You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one.
  • 16
    А якщо Я і суджу, то Мій суд є правдивим, бо Я не один, але з Тим, Хто Мене послав, — з Отцем.

    And yet if I do judge, My judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent Me.

    У вашому ж таки Законі написано, що свідчення двох людей є правдивим.

    It is also written in your law that the testimony of two men is true.
  • 18
    Я Сам свідчу про Себе, та свідчить про Мене і Той, Хто Мене послав, — Отець!

    I am One who bears witness of Myself, and the Father who sent Me bears witness of Me.”

    Тоді запитали Його: Де Твій Отець? Ісус відповів: Ні Мене не знаєте, ні Мого Отця; коли б ви Мене знали, то знали б і Мого Отця.

    Then they said to Him, “Where is Your Father?”
    Jesus answered, “You know neither Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also.”

    Ці слова Він сказав біля скарбниці, навчаючи в храмі, і ніхто не схопив Його, бо ще не прийшов Його час.

    These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, as He taught in the temple; and no one laid hands on Him, for His hour had not yet come.

    Тоді знову сказав їм [Ісус]: Я відходжу, і ви будете шукати Мене, і в гріховності своїй помрете. Куди Я іду, туди ви не можете піти!

    Jesus Predicts His Departure

    Then Jesus said to them again, “I am going away, and you will seek Me, and will die in your sin. Where I go you cannot come.”

    Тож юдеї міркували між собою, чи Сам Себе Він не вб’є, коли каже: Куди Я іду, туди ви не можете піти?

    So the Jews said, “Will He kill Himself, because He says, ‘Where I go you cannot come’?”

    А Він говорив їм: Ви — здолу, Я — звисока; ви від цього світу, Я не від цього світу.

    And He said to them, “You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.
  • 24
    Тому Я сказав вам, що помрете у ваших гріхах. Бо коли не повірите, що Я є, то помрете у ваших гріхах.
  • 24
    Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”
  • 25
    А вони запитали Його: Хто Ти? Сказав їм Ісус: Я — Початок, що й кажу вам.
  • 25
    Then they said to Him, “Who are You?”
    And Jesus said to them, “Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.

    Багато Я маю про вас говорити і судити, але Той, Хто послав Мене, є правдивий, і Я світові те кажу, що від Нього почув.

    I have many things to say and to judge concerning you, but He who sent Me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I heard from Him.”

    Вони ж не зрозуміли, що Він говорив їм про Отця.

    They did not understand that He spoke to them of the Father.
  • 28
    Тому Ісус їм сказав: Коли піднесете Сина Людського, тоді зрозумієте, що це Я і що від Себе нічого не роблю, а тільки як навчив Мене [Мій] Отець, — те й говорю.

    Then Jesus said to them, “When you lift[m] up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.

    Той, Хто послав Мене, є зі Мною; [Отець] не залишив Мене Самого, бо Я завжди роблю те, що Йому до вподоби!

    And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him.”

    Коли Він це говорив, багато хто повірив у Нього.

    As He spoke these words, many believed in Him.

    Тож промовив Ісус до тих юдеїв, які повірили в Нього: Якщо ви будете перебувати в Моєму слові, тоді справді будете Моїми учнями

    The Truth Shall Make You Free

    Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.

    і пізнаєте істину, а істина вас вільними зробить!

    And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
  • 33
    Вони відповіли Йому: Ми є потомством Авраама і не були ні в кого й ніколи невільниками. То як же Ти кажеш, що станемо вільними?

    They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?”

    Відповів їм Ісус: Знову й знову запевняю вас, що кожний, хто чинить гріх, є невільником гріха.

    Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.
  • 35
    Але невільник не залишається в домі навіки; Син же залишається навіки.
  • 35
    And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever.
  • 36
    Отже, якщо Син визволить вас, то справді будете вільні.

    Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

    Знаю, що ви є потомством Авраама, але прагнете Мене вбити, бо Моє слово не вміщається у вас.

    Abraham’s Seed and Satan’s

    “I know that you are Abraham’s descendants, but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you.

    Я кажу те, що побачив у [Мого] Отця, а ви чините те, що чули від [вашого] батька.

    I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have [n]seen with your father.”

    У відповідь вони Йому сказали: Авраам наш батько! Каже їм Ісус: Якби ви були дітьми Авраама, ви чинили б діла Авраамові;

    They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is our father.”
    Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would do the works of Abraham.

    нині ж ви шукаєте вбити Мене — Людину, Котра сказала вам істину, яку почула від Бога. Авраам такого не робив.

    But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this.

    Ви робите діла вашого батька! Тоді вони сказали Йому: Ми народилися не від перелюбу; маємо одного Отця — Бога!

    You do the deeds of your father.”
    Then they said to Him, “We were not born of fornication; we have one Father — God.”

    Сказав їм Ісус: Якби Бог був вашим Отцем, ви полюбили б Мене, бо Я від Бога вийшов і прийшов, — не Сам від Себе прийшов, але Він Мене послав.

    Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me.

    Чому ви не розумієте Моєї мови? Бо ви не можете слухати Моїх слів.

    Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word.

    Ви від вашого батька — диявола, і ви хочете виконувати бажання вашого батька. Той був душогубом від самого початку і в істині не встояв, бо немає в ньому істини. Коли говорить неправду, тоді своє говорить, бо він неправдомовець і батько неправди.

    You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.

    А коли Я істину кажу, — ви не вірите Мені.
  • 45
    But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me.
  • 46
    Хто з вас оскаржить Мене за гріх? А якщо Я істину кажу, то чому ви Мені не вірите?

    Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me?
  • 47
    Хто від Бога, той слухає Божі слова; ви ж тому й не слухаєте, що ви не від Бога!

    He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.”
  • 48
    Відповідаючи на це, юдеї сказали: Хіба не так ми говоримо, що Ти самарієць і біса маєш?

    Before Abraham Was, I AM

    Then the Jews answered and said to Him, “Do we not say rightly that You are a Samaritan and have a demon?”

    Ісус відповів: Я біса не маю, але шаную Мого Отця, а ви Мене зневажаєте.

    Jesus answered, “I do not have a demon; but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me.
  • 50
    Я не шукаю власної слави: є Той, Хто шукає і судить.
  • 50
    And I do not seek My own glory; there is One who seeks and judges.
  • 51
    Знову й знову запевняю вас, що коли хто збереже Моє слово, не побачить смерті повік!
  • 51
    Most assuredly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he shall never see death.”
  • 52
    Тоді юдеї сказали Йому: Тепер ми довідалися, що Ти маєш біса. І Авраам помер, і пророки, а Ти кажеш: Коли хто збереже Моє слово, не скуштує смерті ніколи.

    Then the Jews said to Him, “Now we know that You have a demon! Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and You say, ‘If anyone keeps My word he shall never taste death.’
  • 53
    Хіба Ти більший від нашого батька Авраама, який помер? Та й пророки повмирали. Ким Ти Себе Самого робиш?

    Are You greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? And the prophets are dead. Who do You make Yourself out to be?”

    Ісус відповів: Якщо Я буду прославляти Себе Самого, то слава Моя — ніщо. Це Мій Отець Мене прославляє, — Той, про Кого ви кажете: Він — наш Бог;

    Jesus answered, “If I honor Myself, My honor is nothing. It is My Father who honors Me, of whom you say that He is [o]your God.

    ви Його не пізнали, Я ж Його знаю. І якщо Я скажу, що не знаю Його, то буду подібним до вас — неправдомовцем, але Я Його знаю та зберігаю Його слово.

    Yet you have not known Him, but I know Him. And if I say, ‘I do not know Him,’ I shall be a liar like you; but I do know Him and keep His word.

    Авраам, ваш батько, радий був би побачити Мій день — і побачив, і зрадів!
  • 56
    Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.”
  • 57
    На це юдеї Йому сказали: Ти не маєш ще й п’ятдесяти років, а вже бачив Авраама?

    Then the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?”
  • 58
    Та Ісус їм сказав: Знову й знову запевняю вас: Перш ніж був Авраам, — Я є!
  • 58
    Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”
  • 59
    Тоді схопили каміння, щоб кидати в Нього. Ісус же скрився і вийшов з храму, [пройшовши між ними, і попрямував далі].

    Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going[p] through the midst of them, and so passed by.
