Warning against Pride
From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

Ви прагнете — і не маєте, вбиваєте й заздрите — і не можете осягнути. Ворогуєте і воюєте. Не маєте, тому що не просите;
Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
просите й не одержуєте, бо не на добро просите, а щоб розтратити на ваші пристрасті.
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
[Перелюбники й] перелюбниці, хіба ви не знаєте, що любов світу — це ворожнеча проти Бога? Адже хто хоче дружити зі світом, той стає ворогом Божим.
Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
Чи ви думаєте, що Писання даремно каже: Прагне до заздрощів той дух, який оселився в нас?
Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
Та більшу дає благодать, через те й говорить: Бог гордим противиться, а покірним дає благодать.
But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
Тож підкоріться Богові, протидійте дияволові, і він утече від вас.
Drawing Near to God
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Наблизьтеся до Бога, і Він наблизиться до вас. Очистіть руки, грішники, і очистіть серця, двоєдушні.
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
Журіться, сумуйте і плачте. Нехай ваш сміх обернеться на плач, а радість — на смуток.
Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
Упокорте себе перед Господом, і Він піднесе вас.
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
Не обмовляйте, брати, один одного. Той, хто обмовляє брата або судить свого брата, обмовляє Закон і судить Закон. А коли осуджуєш Закон, то ти не виконавець Закону, а суддя.
Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
Є один Законодавець і Суддя, Який може спасти й погубити. А хто ти такий, що осуджуєш ближнього?
There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?
Тепер слухайте ви, які кажете: Сьогодні або завтра підемо до цього міста й перебудемо там [один] рік, і будемо торгувати та заробляти!
Do Not Boast about Tomorrow
Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

Ви, котрі не знаєте, що завтра станеться, яке ваше життя? Адже це пара, що на мить з’являється, а потім зникає.
Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
Замість того, щоб вам говорити: Коли Господь забажає, і ми будемо живі, то зробимо те чи інше.
For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
А тепер ви хвалитеся у своїх гордощах. Усяка така хвальба лиха.
But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
