Cities of Refuge
When Jehovah thy God hath cut off the nations whose land Jehovah thy God giveth thee, and thou hast dispossessed them, and dwellest in their cities and in their houses,

то виділиш собі посеред своєї землі, яку Господь Бог дає тобі, три міста.
thou shalt separate three cities for thyself in the midst of thy land, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee to possess.
Розрахуєш собі дорогу й розділиш межі своєї землі, яку Господь, твій Бог, виділяє тобі, на три частини, і нехай там буде сховище для будь-якого вбивці.
Thou shalt prepare thee the way, and divide the territory of thy land, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee to inherit, into three parts, so that every slayer may flee thither.
Ось який припис буде щодо вбивці, який втече туди і житиме. Хто ненавмисно вбив би ближнього, не ворогувавши з ним ні вчора, ні передучора,
And this is the case of the slayer who shall flee thither that he may live: he that smiteth his neighbour unwittingly, whom he hated not previously;
чи хто прийшов би з ближнім у ліс збирати дрова, і його рука, рубаючи дерево, замахнулася сокирою, і залізо, злетівши з держака, влучило в ближнього, і той загинув би, — нехай такий утече в одне із цих міст і нехай живе.
as when he goeth into the wood with his neighbour to hew wood, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the iron slippeth from the handle, and lighteth upon his neighbour, that he die; such an one shall flee unto one of these cities, and live;
Щоби месник за кров, розгарячившись серцем та погнавшись за вбивцею, не наздогнав його, — якщо дорога буде дальшою, — не побив його душі, і той не помер, хоч на ньому немає смертного присуду, оскільки він не був його ворогом ні вчора, ні передучора.
lest the avenger of blood pursue the manslayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and smite him mortally; whereas he was not worthy of death, since he hated him not previously.
Тому-то я заповідаю тобі це слово, кажучи: Виділи собі три міста.
Therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt separate three cities for thyself.
А коли Господь Бог розширить твої кордони, як Він поклявся твоїм батькам, і дасть тобі всю ту землю, яку обіцяв дати твоїм батькам, —
And if Jehovah thy God enlarge thy border, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give unto thy fathers
якщо ти будеш слухняним, виконуючи всі ці заповіді, які я тобі сьогодні заповідаю, люблячи Господа, свого Бога, та ходячи всіма Його дорогами всі дні, — то додаси собі до цих трьох ще три міста.
(if thou keep all this commandment to do it, which I command thee this day, to love Jehovah thy God, and to walk in his ways continually), then shalt thou add three cities more for thyself to these three,
Хай на твоїй землі, яку Господь, твій Бог, дає тобі в спадщину, не проливається невинна кров, і хай серед тебе не буде винного в кровопролитті.
that innocent blood be not shed in the midst of thy land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and blood come not upon thee.
Якщо ж буде якийсь чоловік, який буде ненавидіти ближнього, чатуватиме на нього, нападе на нього, поб’є його душу, і той помре, і він утече в одне із цих міст,
But if a man hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die, and he flee into one of these cities,
то нехай старійшини його міста пошлють по нього, заберуть його звідти й видадуть його в руки месника за кров, і він помре.
then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.
Хай твоє око не має до нього пощади; змий з Ізраїлю невинну кров, — і тобі буде добре.
Thine eye shall not spare him; and thou shalt put away innocent blood from Israel, that it may be well with thee.
Не пересувай меж ближнього, котрі встановили твої батьки в спадщині, яку ти отримав на землі, якою Господь, твій Бог, дає тобі заволодіти.
Thou shalt not remove thy neighbour's landmark, which they of old time have fixed in thine inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee to possess.
Хай один свідок не виступає проти людини в будь-якій несправедливості, у будь-якому проступку чи в будь-якому гріху, яким вона згрішить. Кожний факт повинен бути встановлений за свідченням двох свідків чи за свідченням трьох свідків.
The Testimony of Witnesses
One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, and for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall a matter be established.

А якщо проти якогось чоловіка виступить несправедливий свідок, закидаючи йому безбожність,
If an unrighteous witness rise up against any man to testify against him of an offence;
то нехай обидва чоловіки, між якими виникне суперечка, стануть перед Господом, перед священиками та перед суддями, які будуть у ті дні,
then both the men between whom the controversy is shall stand before Jehovah, before the priests and the judges that shall be in those days;
й нехай судді пильно розслідять: якщо несправедливий свідок свідчив несправедливо і виступив проти свого брата,
and the judges shall make thorough inquiry; and if the witness be a false witness, and he have testified falsely against his brother,
то вчините йому так, як він мав намір учинити своєму братові, — і так викорениш зло з-посеред вас самих.
then shall ye do unto him as he had thought to have done unto his brother; and thou shalt put evil away from thy midst.
А інші, почувши це, будуть боятися і більше ніколи не чинитимуть серед вас такої злої речі, як ця.
And those that remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil in thy midst.
