Greeting

Paul, a servanta of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God,

2

яке Він заздалегідь пообіцяв через Своїх пророків у Святих Писаннях,

which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures,

3

про Свого Сина, Який тілом був нащадком Давида

concerning his Son, who was descended from Davidb according to the flesh

4

і настановлений Сином Божим у силі, за Духом Святості, через воскресіння з мертвих — про Ісуса Христа, Господа нашого,

and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,

через Якого ми прийняли благодать і апостольство, щоби через Його Ім’я були послушні вірі всі народи,

through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations,

між якими і ви, покликані Ісуса Христа, —

including you who are called to belong to Jesus Christ,

усім, хто в Римі, улюбленим Божим, покликаним святим: благодать і мир вам від Бога, нашого Отця, і Господа Ісуса Христа!

To all those in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints:
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Longing to Go to Rome

First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed in all the world.

9

І свідком мені є Бог, Якому служу своїм духом у Євангелії Його Сина, що завжди про вас пам’ятаю,

For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you

10

постійно прошу у своїх молитвах, щоб колись вдалося, з Божої волі, відвідати вас.

always in my prayers, asking that somehow by God’s will I may now at last succeed in coming to you.

11

Прагну побачити вас, щоби передати вам якийсь духовний дар для вашого зміцнення;

For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you —

12

тобто разом з вами втішитися спільною вірою — вашою і моєю.

that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine.

13

Не хочу, брати, щоб ви не знали того, як часто я бажав, аби мати якийсь плід і серед вас, як і серед інших язичників, прийти до вас, але все щось перешкоджало — аж до сьогодні.

13

I do not want you to be unaware, brothers,c that I have often intended to come to you (but thus far have been prevented), in order that I may reap some harvest among you as well as among the rest of the Gentiles.

14

Я боржник перед греками і варварами, мудрими і немудрими;

14

I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians,d both to the wise and to the foolish.

15

тому, щодо мене, то я готовий і вам, які в Римі, звістити Євангеліє.

15

So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.

16

Адже я не соромлюся Радісної Звістки [Христа], тому що вона — Божа сила на спасіння кожному, хто вірить: перше — юдеєві, а тоді — грекові.

The Righteous Shall Live by Faith

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

17

Адже праведність Божа відкривається в ній з віри у віру, як написано: А праведний вірою житиме.

17

For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith,e as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”f

18

Оскільки гнів Божий з’являється з неба на всяку безбожність і неправедність людей, які правду стримують неправедністю;

God’s Wrath on Unrighteousness

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.

19

адже те, що можна знати про Бога, відоме їм, тому що Бог їм відкрив.

For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.

20

Тож Його невидиме — Його вічна сила і Божественність — від створення світу через творіння стає зрозумілим. Так що немає їм виправдання.

20

For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world,g in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

21

Адже пізнавши Бога, вони не прославили Його як Бога, не подякували Йому. Але їхні думки стали нікчемними, а нерозумні їхні серця — оповиті темрявою.

For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

22

Називаючи себе мудрими, вони стали нерозумними,

22

Claiming to be wise, they became fools,

23

і славу нетлінного Бога вони замінили подобою тлінної людини, птахів, чотириногих і плазунів.

23

and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

24

Тому Бог через пожадання їхніх сердець віддав їх нечистоті, щоб вони самі між собою безчестили свої тіла.

24

Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves,

25

Вони замінили Божу істину на неправду, поклонялися і служили творінню більше, ніж Творцеві, Який є благословенний навіки! Амінь [2].

25

because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

26

Тому Бог віддав їх ганебним пристрастям: їхні жінки замінили природне єднання на протиприродне;

26

For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature;

27

так само й чоловіки, залишивши природне єднання з жінкою, розпалилися своєю пристрастю один до одного; чоловіки із чоловіками роблять ганьбу і самі в собі пожинають належну відплату за свій блуд.

and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

28

Оскільки вони вважали за непотрібне пізнати Бога, то видав їх Бог їхньому перекрученому розумові, щоби чинили те, чого не личить.

28

And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.

29

Вони сповнені всякої неправди, лукавства, зажерливості, злоби; повні заздрості, вбивства, суперечок, підступу, поганих звичок, пліткарства;

29

They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips,

30

вони наклепники, богоненависники, напасники, зухвалі, горді, хвалькуваті, винахідники зла, непокірні батькам,

30

slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,

31

нерозумні, зрадливі, безсердечні, [непримиренні], немилосердні.

31

foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless.

32

Вони, знаючи про суд Божий, що ті, хто таке коїть, варті смерті, не тільки продовжують це робити, але й схвалюють інших, які таке чинять.

32

Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.
